How many times have you wanted to get a copy of Amazing
Fantasy 15, but realized that it was way out of your budget? Well, that was not
the case for 17 year old Michael Goldman who found a copy of Amazing Fantasy 15
at a dollar store in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Apparently the owner of the store received a comic book
collection from a family member that recently passed away and not being a comic
book fan himself did not realize that he was sitting on a small gold mine.
According to Michael he himself was not even sure of what the book was until he
read the first few pages of the most important comic book in Marvel history.
While the Amazing Fantasy 15 book was sold for only 99 cents
(plus taxes) along with other silver age comic books, Stephen Yang who owns the
store removed all other comic books from the sales floor in hopes of finding
their value before selling them.
When asked about the sale Yang said that he would love to
get the book back and would pay Goldman 100 dollars for it, but Goldman so far
does not seem willing to return the book. Yang is disappointed to say the least
and feels that Goldman robbed him, but when he contacted the authorities they
advised him that there is nothing that they can do as the transaction was
legal.
Other items that Yang had in his store were sketches by
artists as well as a few action figures that he had priced at around 15
dollars, but he never thought a comic book could go for the prices that they
do.
One of the employees at Cosmic Comics in Las Vegas got a
look at the copy of Amazing Fantasy 15 which Goldman bought and calculates that
it would be graded at an 8.0 by a professional grading company. Michael however
says that he will keep the comic book in its raw form and read it because that
is what comic books are for. Michael keeps his stack next to his bed and in his
own bathroom for reading convenience.
By the way, Happy April Fool’s
